Description :
The Project Manager will coordinate the necessary activities to lead different property development projects to completion, in various VIA Rail facilities (stations, maintenance centers, administrative offices). The Project Manager will be required to conduct pre-project studies in order to produce business cases and preliminary space concepts. They will also design or oversee the design and supervise the completion of onsite work. The proposed solutions will minimize the Corporation’s rental footprint, ensure an optimal occupancy rate and meet employees and passengers needs. The current Corporate environment strategy is oriented towards an activity-based working design.

Responsibilities :

Planning of space occupation concepts:

  • Plan space occupation concepts during the pre-project studies in order to produce internal business cases;
  • Prepare or undertake, by themself or with the help of the required professionals, office design master plans, stakeholders consultations, needs and requirements assessments,space functional correspondence and standards analysis, preliminary conceptualization and design, and also cost and timeline planning.

Management and execution of space design projects:

  • Ensure that the initiation, planning, supervision, control, execution, and closure of the projects are rigorously conducted as per VIA Rail’s processes and standards;
  • Ensure completion of the project within the timeframe and budget;
  • They are the main resource person during the planning and design of the detailed layout plans;
  • Validate the plans before their publication;
  • Given the scope, they will either undertake the project or assist the Real Estate Project manager during construction work. Generally speaking, the main activities will be to deal with the stakeholders, prepare layout plans that respect standards, plan for temporary workspaces, help move the occupants, declutter the spaces, conduct or follow-up on construction work, install furniture, inspect the work and manage deficiencies.

Procurement:

  • Manage tender documents and processes with preselected companies for the provision of professional mandates or for the supply and installation of office furniture in conformity with standards;
  • Manage the consultants and suppliers in respect with contracts’ terms and conditions. Evaluate and negotiate costs;
  • Support the Procurement Team, provide required documents and participate in selecting general contractors.

Progress and monitoring report:

  • Prepare progress reports and participate in VIA Rail’s follow-up meetings;
  • Participate in the revision of invoices, contracts, change orders and all other necessary documents pursuant to their delegation of authority.
Requirements :
  • University degree in architecture, design or an equivalent;
  • 5 to 7 years experience in a similar position;
  • Experience in project design and management for building construction;
  • Skilled at managing space reorganisation, relocation and furnishings design;
  • Good skills for MS Office suite, Autocad, Illustrator and Adobe Acrobat Pro DC;
  • BIM Management experience and expertise with Revit, Photoshop, MS Project and Visio are an asset;
  • PMI Certification (CAPM or PMP) or PMBOK knowledge is an asset.

  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to details;
  • Proactive, self-motivated and autonomous;
  • Good oral and written communication skills in French and English;
  • Organisational skills, ability to manage and prioritize several projects in a dynamic and changing environment;
  • Ease in communicating, negotiating with sub-contractors and collaborating with others;
  • Must adapt easily to change.
