The Role
This position is responsible for contributing to the Paradigm Quest team. The Senior Asset Quality Analyst is accountable for carrying out all activities associated with MCAP’s Asset Quality Program with a specific focus on MCAP Originated Core Underwriting Audits including Pre-Funding Prime, Contentious Loans and Loans Selected for External Audit by Insurers, Investors and other key partners.
The successful candidate will be accountable for measuring MCAP’s ability to originate compliant and marketable loans, providing unbiased and relevant feedback to the business to support continuous improvement.
The successful candidate will also be accountable for taking pre-emptive measures to mitigate risks associated with deficiencies identified in files selected for external audit and defaulted loans that have potential to be contentious with external partners.
The successful candidate will represent MCAP in a competent and professional manner, using their analytical skills, underwriting expertise, good judgement and solid work ethic as needed to serve and protect the company’s interests.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out unbiased file reviews, testing for policy adherence and MCAP’s ability to make good lending decisions using accurate information.
- Provide clear feedback when deficiencies are observed to support continuous improvement
- Carry out second reviews as required to support peers and overall audit quality, with a specific focus on eliminating erroneous findings
- Prepare files selected for external audit to eliminate duplication of documents, increase clarity and make the audit process as convenient and time efficient as possible for external partners
- Take a pre-emptive approach to closing gaps and addressing deficiencies on files selected for external audit and contentious loans.
- Conduct detailed file reviews on contentious loans to determine loss severity
- Continuously monitor the portfolio for trends and/or anything deemed to pose undue risk to the company
- Be a contributing member of the team, working co-operatively with others to ensure the relevance and quality of work produced and ongoing value add to MCAP
- Receive external partner questions and/or notice of deficiencies and prepare the appropriate response in a timely, competent and professional manner
- Use the systems, tools and techniques provided to carry out all activities, identifying when areas to improve exist and making meaningful recommendations
- Proactively manage individual workload to ensure all activities are completed accurately and on time, supporting peers as required to ensure the overall deliverables for the team are achieved.
Service and Support to internal and external Partners
- Provide an exceptional customer experience to external partners while facilitating audits in a timely, competent and professional manner
- Provide unbiased, relevant feedback to internal partners in the spirit of generating quality product to meet and/or exceed our customer’s needs
- Provide assistance if and when needed to support the changing needs of the business
What You Bring To The Team
- Minimum 2 years Residential Mortgage Underwriting Experience
- Bilingual in English and French
- Excellent working knowledge of MCAP Residential Mortgage Underwriting Policy
- Good understanding of the Mortgage Life Cycle and the MCAP Business Model
- Exceptional customer service skills with ability to build solid, working relationships
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Self-driven, motivated with the ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Carries out duties with integrity and takes responsibility for actions.
- Thinks strategically and articulates concepts clearly
- Ability to understand financial statements and assess financial viability
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word & Excel
- University Degree/College Diploma, preferable
- Accredited Mortgage Professional (AMP) is an asset but not a requirement
